The study of human behavior is fascinating to me.  How we interact, the habits we have, etc.  Especially now that I’m involved from a technology perspective in fixing many of these issues.

One of the magazines I’ve started reading lately is SEED.  Focusing on science, technology and life.  Last month had an interesting research article on people’s brain activity in relation to their environment.  The article targets the brain activity and shows the correlation to people in poverty.  Could this be true?

I’ve been thinking alot about this for the last couple of days.  My opinion might be a tad skewed since I tutor in Memphis City Schools weekly.  After thinking about and attending my tutoring session today were I was able to step back and focus more on the other children taking part in the tutoring efforts I’ve come to the conclusion this is accurate reporting.

If you are born into a family that basically is lacking the brain skills to think, react, and do you are faced with a tough road ahead.  I see this every week.  I struggle with focusing my tutoree to "get it" but I won’t give up.  Even though I believe this report to be true, I still think you can influence and change.  It will be hard.  When the only positive influence you have is at school or a tutor, the negative becomes a more impact to your life.

I recently even thought back to my childhood.  No offense Moms and Pops, but I didn’t come from scholars but I did pick up some good traits:  figuring out how to get things done, reliance on education, optimistic spirit, and the willingness to take a chance.  I’m not professing these to be the skills to get ahead in life but they’ve done me a good service so far.

I saw this tonight on Engadget.  So yes taking a spill hurts but with this fabric maybe not so much.  I know a few bicycle clothing manufacturers who need to take a lesson from Spyder.

It’s your choice

Whether you hate him because he owns Microsoft or not you have to straight up admire Bill Gates.  Why?  The man is a donating machine.  As I read more and more about his family’s work with their foundation and working for economic reform I have become to admire and respect him more.  Even when the stupid IT nerds bash him I’ve started speaking out on his behalf.  No computer system or software is perfect.  I believe Microsoft is agile, scaleable and can get the job done.  Might cost a tad more and security is always going to be an issue.  The media hypes this quite a bit as well.

Here is the lates on the Gates:
Bill Gates pledged Friday to triple his foundation’s funding for eradicating
tuberculosis to a total of $900 million by 2015, and health experts at the World
Economic Forum urged renewed caution against the spread of bird flu.
