Are we all some sort of plagerists?
I was thinking about that yesterday afternoon while reading a section on research plagerism. It made me think about the amount of times I’ve come in contact with folks here at work who’ve heard from another source about an idea I’ve had. Then to talk about it like its their own idea astonishes me. Why is that? Are we so in it for ourselves that we’ve forgotten how to "cite" sources????? We are all on the same team but I think plagerism is plagerism regardless of the context. Whether it is intended and incidential plagerism I don’t care. Give credit where credit is due.
I’ll always have and always will give credit to connectionist points of information/ ideas where I’ve mashed up two concepts to create something. Maybe its the open philosophy I have towards business. I don’t know. I’m crazy half the time dreaming of open business models to benefit the less fortunate.
And you’ll dress in white, oh to take your place in a chorus line.
Can a cycling nazi and Jesus co-exist in one body?
Are you too good to tangle with a poor, poor boy…
I’ve officially reach I can’t stand the Bush administration level. That’s Zack’s code Orange. Why you say that playa???
How about a freaking reality check? Apparently the Secretary of Transportation Mary Peters doesn’t deem bicycles a mode of transportation. That we are almost wasting dollars that could be used for mechanical machines and infrastructure. How dare she make statements like this. Has she run the numbers on the amount of energy we could save if we encourage people to ride bikes in this country? its huge compared to the cost of putting these bike paths in place.
I would like say some four letter words to Mary Peters but i’ll remain calm and hope for smoother seas.

So I read a really interesting research report yesterday about the state of the InterConnector. The research focused on the eruption of traditional mass media as the Internet democratization occurs with blogs, wikis, video, and other user generated content becoming our mainstream pipes of information. The report outlines many examples occurring but posed the question, "Is this democratization eroding our ability to have common values, perspectives, and voices?" I was really struck by this and couldn’t help but think maybe this is true. It does seem we as a nation are becoming more and more sub units of sub units.
With over a million blogs created a day, that’s alot of perspectives and opinions. Now probably 30% of those will worth reading, that’s still 300kish voices. I think about politics alot when stuff like this comes out. Why? Because the blogosphere has created a mess. Everyone has an freaking opinion, the intellectual divide is growing out of control, the ability to discuss face to face in a reasonable manner is going away…… some days its a sad day to be an American. We all want truth in our information but at what cost. While the report offered no solutions it is a puzzling thought.
I’ve been reading and thinking alot about where the next turn will be in regards to the dissimination of information and I believe it will be alot about reputation. I think and believe you will one day have a social profile that will be mostly visible by your reputation. This will determine your readership and following. I know its f’ing weird but I think its the truth.
There are only so many ways to pardon our divide Let’s sew the canyon to the sky

Amazing presentation from Sugata Mitra on the recent experiments he has been conducting over the years around bringing remote access of the interconnector to villages inside India and the educational impacts. Towards the end he makes alot of key points about these village children are so adaptable. Wish the US was like this……
